You may have learned that hoping for something and not getting it hurts worse than never hoping at all, and that expecting less keeps you safer. It might start with saying the thing you're hoping for out loud, to one person, before you've decided it's safe to. Hope isn't naivety. It's the part of you that still believes something better is possible, and it's usually right about more than the fear gives it credit for.
Traditionally echoed in Elpis, the spirit of hope that remained in Pandora's box after everything else had escaped.
