The Wounded Healer
You may have learned that whatever you reach for to cope is weakness, best kept hidden if you want to be taken seriously. Each time you catch yourself reaching, there's a moment to ask what hurts instead of what's wrong with you. Most days you'll miss it. Catching it once is the start. People reach for relief because ordinary conditions aren't providing what they need. The real question was never why the habit. It's why the pain.
Traditionally echoed in Chiron, the centaur who could heal others but never his own wound, the figure Jung drew on when he described the wounded healer.
What have you reached for when things were unbearable, and what was it actually telling you?
