The Mourner
You may have learned that you move through grief and return to functioning, that mourning too long is something to fix, and that only certain losses count as grief in the first place, a death, obviously, but not a miscarriage, a friendship, a pet, or the life you thought you'd have.
Traditionally echoed in Demeter, who mourned Persephone's descent to the underworld so fiercely the earth went barren, in Isis, who searched Egypt for the scattered body of Osiris and mourned him back to life, and in Brigid, whose keening for her son Ruadán is remembered as the first ever heard in Ireland.
What are you still grieving that you've been told, by others or by yourself, doesn't really count as grief?
